Founded in 1878, the Istanbul University Faculty of Law is Turkey’s oldest and one of the most distinguished law schools. The Faculty’s academic staff includes 46 professors, 42 associate professors, 25 assistant professors, 1 lecturer with a doctoral degree, 22 research assistants with doctoral degrees and 104 research assistants, amounting to a total of 240 academic personnel.
Committed to providing high-quality legal education grounded in both national traditions and universal principles of law, the Faculty serves as an important center of legal scholarship and contributes significantly to the development of the country’s legal institutions and legal system. Drawing strength from its long-standing academic heritage, it not only teaches law but also actively produces legal knowledge through research. The Faculty aims to educate practitioners and scholars who possess strong analytical abilities, cultural awareness, effective communication skills, and the competence to address complex legal issues. Sustaining its leadership at the national level while expanding its international presence, the Istanbul University Faculty of Law remains an institution whose membership is widely regarded as a mark of honor and distinction.
